Free online GPA Calculator
Three simple steps
- For each course, enter its credit hours and choose the letter grade.
- Add a course for every class to include, or remove an unused row.
- Read the credit-weighted GPA and total credits on this sample 4.0 scale.
Understand your result
A credit-weighted GPA gives a higher-credit course more influence than a lower-credit course. Enter only courses that your institution includes in the GPA calculation.
Worked example
An A in a 4-credit course contributes 4 × 4.0 = 16 grade points. A B in a 2-credit course contributes 2 × 3.0 = 6. Add the grade points and divide by total credits: (16 + 6) ÷ (4 + 2) = 3.67 GPA.
Grade points used here
| Letter | Points | Letter | Points |
|---|---|---|---|
| A+ / A | 4.0 | C+ | 2.3 |
| A− | 3.7 | C | 2.0 |
| B+ | 3.3 | C− | 1.7 |
| B | 3.0 | D+ | 1.3 |
| B− | 2.7 | D | 1.0 |
| F | 0.0 | D− | 0.7 |
How the weighting works
GPA = total (course credits × grade points) ÷ total credits. Credits must be positive. An A+ and A both count as 4.0 here; honours weighting and alternate grading systems are not applied.
Common questions
Can this calculate a cumulative GPA?
Yes, if you enter all included courses with the correct credits and grades. An institution may handle repeated courses, pass/fail classes, withdrawals, and transfer credits differently.
Is this my official GPA?
No. Use your institution’s rules and transcript for an official result. This calculator estimates a GPA using the displayed sample scale.
