Three simple steps
- Type an expression or use the on-screen keypad. Use × or *, ÷ or /, and parentheses to group a calculation.
- Choose DEG for degrees or RAD for radians before using trigonometric functions. DEG is the starting mode.
- Read the result as you edit; use = or Calculate to evaluate explicitly.
Understand your result
Use this calculator for arithmetic, powers, roots, logarithms, factorials, and trigonometry. Expressions are evaluated by a restricted mathematical parser on your device.
A few expressions to try
| Type | Meaning | Result |
|---|---|---|
| sqrt(144) | Square root | 12 |
| 2^8 | Power | 256 |
| 5! | Factorial: 5 × 4 × 3 × 2 × 1 | 120 |
| sin(30) in DEG | Sine of 30 degrees | 0.5 |
| sin(pi/2) in RAD | Sine of π/2 radians | 1 |
| log(1000) | Base-10 logarithm | 3 |
How to write a calculation
Use * for multiplication, including between a number and a bracket: write 2*(3+4), not 2(3+4). Use ^ for powers, sqrt(...) for square roots, ln(...) for natural logs, and pi or π for the circle constant. Scientific notation is supported: 1e3 means 1,000.
Order of operations
Parentheses are evaluated first, then powers, multiplication and division, and finally addition and subtraction. Powers associate to the right: 2^3^2 means 2^(3^2) = 512. Use parentheses to make the intended order clear. For example, −2^2 = −4, while (−2)^2 = 4.
What does an error mean?
An error may indicate a missing bracket, division by zero, a square root outside the real-number domain, or a result too large to represent. tan(90) in DEG is undefined. Factorials accept whole numbers from 0 to 170. The % key divides its value by 100: 50% = 0.5; it does not apply a checkout-style discount automatically.
