How to Calculate Income Tax With a Flat Rate
The calculator estimates tax from a single percentage chosen by you. Enter income for one consistent period, an allowed deduction amount and a tax rate. It subtracts the deduction to find an estimated taxable base, then applies that flat percentage. This model is not suitable for calculating progressive tax brackets unless you have separately established an appropriate effective rate for a rough estimate.
- Taxable amount = gross entered income − allowed deductions.
- Estimated income tax = taxable amount × entered flat rate ÷ 100.
- Amount after estimated tax = gross entered income − estimated tax. This is not actual take-home pay after payroll deductions.
Worked example: 50,000 income, 5,000 deductions
For income of 50,000, eligible deductions of 5,000 and an entered rate of 10%, the taxable amount is 45,000 and estimated tax is 4,500. The amount after this illustrative tax only is 45,500. This example is arithmetic, not a statement of tax law in any country.
Why tax deductions matter
An eligible deduction can reduce the income amount used in a tax calculation. This is different from a tax credit, which ordinarily reduces an amount of tax subject to its own rules. Enter only deductions justified by the rules that apply to your situation.
Flat tax rate vs. progressive tax brackets
Under a progressive system, different slices of taxable income may face different rates. This calculator applies a single rate to the full entered taxable amount; it does not compute U.S. federal brackets, 2025/2026 standard deductions, filing status, tax credits or state tax.
Frequently asked questions
How does this income tax calculator work?
It subtracts the user-entered deduction from the entered income and applies the percentage you enter to the remaining taxable amount.
Does this calculate 2026 US federal income tax?
No. This version has no U.S. filing-status selector, tax-year selector, progressive brackets, standard-deduction lookup or IRS tax-credit calculation.
What if my country has progressive tax slabs?
Use an official local tax estimator or the published tax brackets. One flat rate cannot reproduce a progressive calculation for all incomes.
Can I enter income in Saudi riyals or another currency?
Yes, the selected currency labels the figures. Enter all amounts in the same currency; the calculator does not perform foreign-exchange conversion.
Is the allowed deduction calculated automatically?
No. Enter only an amount you have independently determined to be eligible under your applicable rules.
What happens if deductions exceed gross income?
The calculator rejects a deduction greater than entered income instead of producing a negative taxable base.
Does this include Social Security, Medicare or other payroll contributions?
No. It models only the flat tax amount that you enter. Payroll deductions and other taxes are not automatically added.
Does it calculate my tax refund?
No. Refunds depend on withholding, payments, credits and many tax rules that are not inputs to this calculator.
What is the difference between this tool and a Salary Calculator?
The Salary Calculator subtracts tax withheld, benefits and other payroll deductions you enter. This Income Tax Calculator applies an illustrative flat tax rate to an amount after entered deductions.

Scope, Tax Accuracy and Official Resources
Income tax law depends on country, residency, income type, filing status, exclusions, adjustments, bracket thresholds and current legislation. The current tool does not verify any of these. The provided rate should be treated as an assumption, not an official tax determination.
For accurate liability or filing, consult your tax authority or a qualified tax professional. In the United States, the IRS federal income-tax rates and brackets explain why a flat-rate illustration differs from progressive federal tax.
