Zakat Calculator
Use this free Zakat calculator to make an illustrative 2.5% estimate of qualifying net assets. Choose a currency, enter values of relevant assets and eligible short-term liabilities, and select a gold- or silver-based Nisab. Enter the current metal price yourself; the tool never claims to supply live gold or silver rates.
How to calculate Zakat in five steps
- Use one currency. Choose SAR, USD, PKR, or another listed currency and enter every amount in it.
- Add eligible assets. Include qualifying cash, bank balances, gold and silver values, investments, inventory, and collectible receivables. Avoid double counting.
- Deduct permitted liabilities. Follow the scholarly guidance that applies to your circumstances.
- Set the Nisab. Enter the current price per gram for your chosen benchmark or a custom threshold. Prices are not fetched automatically.
- Review the conditions. Check Hawl and other applicable rules before treating a planning estimate as payable.
Gold and silver Nisab: which threshold should I use?
Nisab is a minimum wealth threshold. Widely used benchmark weights are 85 grams of gold or 595 grams of silver; another commonly used convention is 87.48 grams of gold or 612.36 grams of silver. The calculator supports both conventions and both metals. Enter a current market price per gram to calculate the monetary threshold. Different scholars and organizations may recommend different benchmarks; choose one with qualified guidance.
What is Hawl?
Hawl refers to a complete Islamic lunar year in the relevant Zakat rules. Because changes in net wealth, additions to savings and the treatment of debts can affect eligibility, a Yes or No answer alone cannot confirm a religious obligation. If you select No or Not sure, the calculator labels a result as illustrative and does not assert that payment is presently due.
What assets and debts should I include?
Cash, bank balances, eligible trade stock, qualifying investments, gold or silver and collectible debts are common categories. Treatment of personal-use jewellery, particular stocks, pension funds, long-term loans and liabilities varies by school of thought and circumstances. Do not count the same asset twice. Enter gold and silver holdings by their monetary value; the price per gram in the Nisab section is used only to work out the threshold.
Worked example
Suppose eligible assets total 22,000 SAR and allowable near-term liabilities total 2,000 SAR. Net assets are 20,000 SAR. If your chosen Nisab is 15,000 SAR and all religious conditions are satisfied, the illustrative Zakat is 20,000 × 0.025 = 500 SAR. The chosen Nisab in this example is hypothetical and is not a live market rate.
Accuracy and religious guidance
This site provides arithmetic only, not Islamic legal advice or a fatwa. Consult a qualified scholar or trusted Zakat authority on the appropriate benchmark, jewelry rules, Hawl and deductible obligations before making a payment.
Frequently asked questions
What percentage is Zakat on qualifying wealth?
The common Zakat rate for qualifying monetary wealth is 2.5% after applicable conditions are met.
Is the price of gold or silver updated automatically?
No. Enter the current pure-gold or silver price per gram in your chosen currency. The tool does not include a live pricing service.
Can I calculate Zakat in Pakistani rupees or Saudi riyals?
Yes. Choose PKR, SAR or another listed currency. Use that same currency for all money amounts, including metal price per gram.
Do I pay Zakat if a lunar year has not passed?
The answer depends on applicable Hawl rules and your circumstances. This calculator shows a planning estimate but does not decide when Zakat becomes obligatory.
Which Nisab standard is correct: 85g/595g or 87.48g/612.36g?
Both sets of weights are used by recognized Zakat organizations. Choose the standard and gold/silver benchmark applicable to you based on trusted guidance.
Are jewellery and long-term debts included?
Rules vary between scholarly opinions and the type of asset or liability. Use professional religious guidance to decide what to enter.
